My greatest adventure began the moment I laid eyes on my then future husband. I felt it when I saw him coming toward me for the first time with the most beautiful flowers in hand, but I knew for sure my greatest adventure had begun a few weeks later when he uttered the words, “Let’s go to Disney World!”
Who We Are
My name is Jennifer, and my beloved hubby’s name is Matthew. Together we have six children that range in ages from two to twenty-seven. We currently live in Texas, however, we would most certainly LOVE to live in Florida one of these days. My husband and I are HUGE Disney fans! Some may call us obsessed. I just say we are in love with each other, our kiddos, and the memories we make together at the happiest place on Earth!
The quality time our family spends together at Disney is like no other. When everyone is happy and having fun together in the parks it really is magical. Walt Disney had a revolutionary idea. He wanted the parks to be designed to where everyone in the family could experience the fun together. His idea was one that has meant so much to so many families over the years. Disney really does bring us closer together as a family, which as a blended family is extremely important.
Matt’s Disney Experience
Matt went to Walt Disney World for the first time way back in 1975. He was three, and Disney World had only been open for about three years as well! When he became an adult he visited Disney World again for the second time with his two oldest children. They were just itty bitty at the time. That’s really when his love for Disney blossomed. Since then he has visited so many times he can’t even begin to count them!
Jennifer’s Disney Experience
I grew up just dreaming of visiting Walt Disney World. I would see the castle in the opening credits of my favorite childhood movies, and I would watch my favorite television characters having the time of their lives at Walt Disney World. It was a huge dream of mine to visit Disney World as a child, however, that dream of mine had been forgotten by the time I had become a young adult. I believed the huge lie that Disney is just for kids. When I got divorced I was a mother of two small children, and I decided that I needed to take them to Walt Disney World so that they could experience what I never was able to. I thought the magic was over for me, however, my kids still had time to experience it.
How We Met
Shortly after I started saving to take my children to Disney I met Matt. We happened to meet each other online even though we later found out that we had lived just down the street from each other for a couple years. His Screen name was Peter Pan which just illustrates how obsessed with Disney he was.
We officially met in person for ice cream a couple weeks later. I just adored him from the beginning and loved how easy it was to talk to him. He is a storyteller, which is one of the reasons I think he loves Disney so much. Everything Disney does has a story! I promise you that Walt Disney World is not your average theme park. You walk in and are instantly transformed into the story. No detail is left untouched. When you are at a Disney park you are in a whole new world along with all your childhood dreams and favorite characters.
Anyways, back to what I was saying about my hubby! He is a storyteller, and my favorite stories of his were those that took place at Walt Disney World. And boy, let me tell you! He had plenty of stories! Remember, I told you he has gone so many times now that he is unable to count how many times? He told me about every ride, restaurant, and experience he had had at Disney before meeting me. He got me so excited about Disney that I couldn’t wait to go!
Our First Trip
Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long! A few months after meeting, he and I snuck off to Disney while my kids were at their Dad’s house for Thanksgiving. My youngest child wasn’t even thought of yet, so Matt and I had the ability to experience the magic of Disney all on our own during my very first Disney World trip at the ripe ol’ age of 30. It was AMAZING!
When someone tells you that Disney World is not romantic DO NOT believe them! It was the most romantic trip of my life. Nothing in my world screams romance louder than sitting in Gaston’s Tavern in the evening with the love of my life, sharing a sweet treat and some hot chocolate, gazing out the window at the castle all lit up with beautiful icicle lights while listening to the music from Beauty and the Beast. That experience along with the beauty of Disney World decorated for Christmas helped put Disney World at the top of my list of all time romantic destinations. Speaking of Christmas, I would suggest everyone experience the park during the Christmas season at least once in their life. It is a very magical experience.
He Popped the Question!
The rest of our story goes like this: Matt took me on a fun road trip to California a few months later. We stopped at many amazing places along the way such as the Grand Canyon and Vegas. Once we were in California we visited Disneyland for the day, and the entire time we were experiencing the magic of Disneyland I was secretly wishing that he would propose to me! Nope, not that day. Not even when we were standing hand in hand in front of the castle with fireworks going off overhead! However, I found out later he had the ring in his pocket that entire day and the thought of proposing to me in front of the Sleeping Beauty castle in Disneyland crossed his mind!
The very next day he took me to the Santa Monica Pier for the first time, where he recreated one of our very first dates that evening. He recreated the date he took us on back home a few weeks after meeting where I realized I was head over heels in love with him. In Santa Monica, we went to the same restaurant, different location, and then took a ride on the Ferris wheel just like we had done on that original date about a year ago. However, there was one big difference. During this ride, he brought out a ring and asked me to become his wife. I was absolutely shocked and overjoyed.
Starting My Greatest Adventure Travel
Now back to the present. I am about to visit Walt Disney World for the 10th time here in a few weeks. We went four times last year. One of our trips we even stayed for a month! During one of these trips, we got to talking about how much we love Disney World and how we believe everyone should love Disney and that we know that with good information anyone couldn’t help but fall in love Walt Disney World. The problem is, though, that the information that is out there can be a bit overwhelming and confusing to navigate for people visiting Disney World for the very first time. I know that if I hadn’t had my sweet hubby with me on my first trip I sure would have been lost and confused.
