Beginner’s Guide to Walt Disney World Tickets

There are many different options for Walt Disney World tickets which can be a bit confusing for first-time guests. In this post, I will break down all the different options for you so that you can make an informed decision when you are purchasing your tickets. The first thing you need to know is, Disney refers to its ticket as the Magic Your Way Ticket.

When Should I Purchase My Tickets?

You should understand that you can purchase tickets ahead of time, or you can wait until you get to the park and purchase at the gate. I am going to tell you that in most cases it is a much better idea to purchase ahead of time. Not only will it save you time in the morning from having to stand in the ticket line, but you will also be able to book fastpass+ selections ahead of time! Booking fastpass+ selections before going on your trip is much better than waiting until you are in the park trying to snag a hard to get fastpass+ for that attraction your nine-year-old son just has to ride. Keep in mind, first use on tickets purchased in 2018 must occur on or before December 31, 2018. The amount paid for an expired ticket may be used to purchase a new ticket at the current price.

How Many Days Can I Purchase On A Ticket?

When purchasing your tickets you can choose to purchase a one day ticket all the way up to a ten-day ticket. The more days you purchase the less expensive each day becomes. For example, the Disney website currently has listed that a two-day adult (ages 10+) ticket starts at $104.50 a day where a ten-day ticket starts at $44.50 a day. That is a difference of $50 a day!

What Do I Receive With A Base Magic Your Way Ticket?

A base Magic Your Way ticket is valid for multiple entries to only one of the four main Walt Disney World parks per day. Does this mean I can only go to one park per day? No, but this is not the best use of your tickets.

Example: I have a 4-day Magic Your Way ticket, and on Monday I visit all four main Walt Disney World parks. On Tuesday I show up at the Magic Kingdom and try to use my ticket. Will I be allowed in the park with my ticket? No, I used all four days on day one. I should have purchased a ticket with the Park Hopper option instead, which leads to my next question!

What Is A Park Hopper Ticket?

The Park Hopper is an optional upgrade you can add to your base ticket. With the Park Hopper upgrade, you can visit anywhere from one of the parks, to all four parks in the same day. If you would like to spend your morning in the Magic Kingdom, for example, go back to your resort for a rest time, and then have dinner in Epcot later that same day you will need to get a park hopper option.

What Is A Park Hopper Plus Option?

The Park Hopper Plus option is another optional upgrade you can add to your base ticket. If you would like to visit Disney’s Blizzard Beach Waterpark, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course, or Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course in addition to the four main theme parks, the Park Hopper Plus option may be worth looking at. With the Park Hopper Plus option, you enjoy same-day admission to all four parks along with one admission each day to one of the attractions I previously listed.

What Is Seasonal Pricing And How Does It Work?

One day tickets work differently than multi-day tickets. One day tickets vary in cost depending on the park and season while multi-day tickets do not. There are three different seasons – peak, regular, or value. Each month is divided into value, regular and peak days. Value is the most inexpensive time to visit, followed by regular, and then peak.

Florida residents have a whole other set of ticket options than the rest of us living in the United States. In a future post, I will lay out all Florida resident ticket options. Stay tuned!
